Epictetus
The Stoic philosophy of Epictetus stresses a clear division between what we can control and what we cannot. He wrote this during a time when people often believed their fates were entirely controlled by external forces like the whims of gods or luck. By focusing on what is within our power—our own thoughts and actions—Epictetus offers a form of freedom that isn't reliant on external circumstances. This mindset turns the chaos of life into a manageable landscape, where inner peace stems from aligning one's will with the natural order.
