Chapter 7 · The Normal Course for Rulers and Kings
Zhuangzi
The mirror metaphor speaks to a radical form of engagement with the world, one that echoes the Daoist ideal of wuwei, or effortless action. While Western philosophy often champions the accumulation of knowledge and experience, Zhuangzi suggests a different path: one of receptivity without attachment. The perfect man allows experiences to flow through him without clinging to them, maintaining an uncluttered mind.
