Book XII
Marcus Aurelius
Marcus Aurelius points to the Stoic ideal of aligning oneself with the rational order of the cosmos. He finds his anchor in the universe's inherent logic and purpose. The Stoics believed that this divine rationality, or "logos," guides everything—embracing it leads to a life of virtue and tranquility. This philosophy was a counterpoint to the chaotic political and social world of Rome, offering a path to inner peace amidst external tumult.
