Zhuangzi challenges the common veneration of knowledge, suggesting that accumulation can entrap rather than enlighten. In his time, Confucian scholars held learning and erudition in high regard, believing it the path to virtue. Zhuangzi, by contrast, seeks liberation through simplicity and withdrawal from the external. True wisdom, he implies, comes not from gathering but from letting go.
